Welcome!

I’m Lyn Drohomyretskyy. I’m a primary school literacy coach for the 21st century: an era of digital technology, design, creativity and innovation for sustainability and inclusivity. I teach in a small public school on Yugumbeh land, in Australia. I’m also a Mum. I love camping, kayaking, reading and cooking. And… I am just one more blog post away from completing a Master of Education degree!

Please enjoy browsing my site. Don’t forget to share your own ideas or leave a comment if any of my blog posts are interesting to you.

From the blog

I acknowledge and pay respect to the land and the traditional families of the Yugambeh region of South East Queensland, including the Kombumerri, Mununjali, Wangerriburra and others, and their Elders past present and emerging.

I recognise the importance in supporting teachers who acknowledge the traditional owners of this land and who work in productive ways with all children, their families and communities toward reconciliation.

About Me

Twenty years ago I began my teaching career. It took me from a small country school to a special school in London, then over to Europe for awhile, then back home to Australia to raise a family. During the child-rearing years I ran a family daycare at home, where I first encountered Project Based Learning (Buchanan et al, 2016). With the freedom to experience teaching in a more relaxed setting, I witnessed the ferocious curiosity and wondrous creativity of toddlers.

With both excitement and a degree of trepidation, I returned to the classroom in 2018. My experience in teaching early literacy skills, combined with my keen interest in Guided Inquiry (Kuhlthau et al, 2012) and other 21st Century Skills soon enough propelled me to take the next right step for me – I enrolled in QUT’s Master of Education. I wanted to get up to speed with changes to the profession, become better aquainted with digital literacy skills, become a literacy specialist: I wanted to become a teacher librarian.
